Np$ welcome to the forums. Btw, for future reference, you should post in the forum specific to the device you are using if it is a device related question. It keeps everything more organized, and the mods will prob move it there eventually anyways. Just a heads up. =)

Downloading google sync on computer

Published by qihoo8 under Blackberry

Greetings:

Is there a way to download Google sync on my computer and then transfer it to my blackberry phone using blackberry desktop manager?

davidsuzuki256

Wirelessly posted (My New Bold)

Computer apps and bb apps are totally different.

I know there are ways to sync google stuff to your comp and bb, but from what I hear, its not very reliable. I don’t know how to off the top of my head. Did you try to search for google sync on here and see what u get?

If you don’t KNOW that it is unreliable you should not say that it is unreliable.

From my own use and experience it is very reliable, but very limited.

OP - If you go to the Google Mobile support forum there have been direct download links posted there for several programs. I don’t have a link and I don’t know for a fact that Sync was one that was posted, but that is your best bet.

dualsub2006

Can you tell me if you can see month view on the google calendar app on blackberry? I have figured out how to sync it with my blackberry but can only see it in list view and not in a "calendar 30-day view".

Viewing it in the browser will only allow you to see the list view that you have. To view anything else you need to get the sync client.

You can try this link:

http://m.google.com/sync/apps/0.5.13…Sync_40_en.cod

I don’t know if it will work or not, but that will put the .cod file on your computer. The rest is up to you.

Websites on Bold - less detail more speed?

Published by qihoo8 under Blackberry

Hi guys,

I’ve just switched from a Curve handset to a Bold.

While the websites come up as I see them on my PC - and like the iphone - it takes ages to download all the detail. I preferrred the display on my curve - which didn’t download each picture - just formula - but was A LOT quicker?

My browser settings are the same on both handsets

Default browser: BlackBerry browser

Default MDS browser config: BlackBerry Browser

Default WAP browser config:O2 active

Any help much appreciated!!

Cheers,

You could disable the loading of images or just reduce their quality.

I don’t notice long loading times unless the page is over 150kb.

Damaged7

Thanks very much Damaged7 - any idea how I might do that disabling?

Charlie C

Open your browser, then press the menu key, and select Options>Browser Configuration. You shouldsee an option called " Show Images". Change this to "No".

ndub33

Thanks very much ndub33….it is quicker…but something like this link takes literally 10 minutes to download??

InvestEgate, Balfour Beatty PLC - Preliminary Results

Any tips on speeding it up very much appreciated

BB newbie with some questions

BB newbie with some questions

Hi All,

About to purchase a 8310 through Vodaphone and had a few questions for those who may be able to help.

I am planning to use the BIS (unlimited email) option and wondered if others had used this to access webmail versions of outlook and what was there impressions?

HOw hard is it to set up the phone and download the BIS and server packs etc, and where do i get these from. None of the phone shops I have been into seem to know anymore about BB’s than i do from research of web and this forum.

Can i agggregate other emails such as yahoos to all go to the BB (and accessed through the BIS)?

Do I need to sync the device with my pc version of outlook at all if i am accessing webmail through BIS.

Apologies if these questions are basic - i’m a bit of a mobile phone luddite!

I’m quite new at this too but, when you turn on your new phone it’ll ask you to register it. You can either do it over the phone or via a computer on your providers bis site.

After you do that you can add the email accounts to your bis. For example on mine I have my gmail, hotmail and isp’s accounts linked to my bis.

When that is done the service books will be sent to your device and you should be able to start receiving emails on your blackberry. I think you can add up to 10 email accounts.

Hi sweston, and welcome to BlackberryForums…. enjoy your time here

Here’s a link to the Vodafone site, which you should find helpful.

Answer

It is really not too hard…. basically 2 ways to get up and running:

1. Via the Vodafone Blackberry site, or

2. Via the handset.

I have used both methods and both are relatively painless…. if you aren’t confident using the handset, then try the PC/Laptop way.

As the Blackberry uses a push email solution (up to 10 email addresses), I do not think you will need to user a webmail application, as your synched email addresses will push their emails onto the Blackberry handset (onto your new blackberry email address), every 15 minutes (if I am not mistaken).

Sing out if you strike any issues… remember, we were all in your situation at one stage or another…. we will helop out as best we can

Thanks for the info.

I may have to use the webmail Outlook as it is a work account and although I have been offered a licence on the BES I am not too keen on having all my usage monitored through work. Not sure if I can use the push email function with the company Outlook email account???

Thanks for all the help - this is a great tool for newbies

Perhaps pm GaryCutri on the forum about your query… one of our gurus

Good luck.

Hi Sweston and welcome aboard,

You can set up a webmail client to push out to your device using BIS. You will need to have a few bits of information before you proceed though. Obviously your standard email address and password as well as your web access URL. Select your E-mail Settings link from your device and after logging in, choose the option to ‘Supply own Settings’ or similar. Input your settings and submit.

If you have any issues please post back here.

Hope this helps,

Kind Regards,

Greg Myers

Display reminders when locked?

Display reminders when locked?

Is it possible to display reminders when the Blackberry is locked?

(display the actual reminder, the beep & flash work nicely).

Cheers

Chris

Display reminders when locked?

Hi Chris,

Any ring tone associated with reminder will work even when the phone is locked.

You would have to unlock the phone to read the actual reminder.

Project Crackberry - calling all BB users to make a stand

Project Crackberry - calling all BB users to make a stand

Hullo! Can you live without your BB?

The London School of Economics is conducting research on the impact of push-mail technology on productivity and work-life balance. There’s been so much talk (gripe? ) about the impact of BB’s and so little data to show. It’ll be interesting to see what comes out of it.

Participate now in a 5 minute online survey and make your stand! http://www.psych.lse.ac.uk/surveys/crackberry/

Thank you for your input.

Kind Regards,

Greg Myers

My 2c (GST inc. !)

The impact of devices like BB’s is the same as when mobile phones were first introduced. People need to be able to learn to exercise self discipline with any technology to achieve & maintain a balance with work & home life, or even with entertainment and other relationships. The Blackberry is no different in its impact to any other electronic device that people use; How many people still spend too much time watching TV or on computers?? Discipline is always a requirement; any focus on achieving a healthy balance of use should be broadly targeted at ALL technology devices that have the potential to become "time sinks", whether they are work based or leisure/recreation based… they can still affect relationships and social communications. [/soapbox]

Cheers,

Brian

Done. Thanks for the opportunity.

Themes

Themes

Hi,

I am totally lost as to how to install themes. I have a 8310 (AT&T) which I upgaraded to the latest DM and OS to 4.5.0.52 recently. I did deletle the vendor.xls file - does that mean my phone is unlocked now although i dont think it was locked when i got it as i can use it on any network?

I have been reading up on themes but cant seem to figure it out.

Could someone please give help me with clear instructions for a intermidiate user, including where to get themes from?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Tony,
There are not a lot themes that have been developed for OS 4.5 yet. I found that a lot of the themes that I had downloaded no longer work after upgrade to the Beta software.
With the release of the new Plazmic 4.5 CDK we should see some new themes out soon. (Alternatively, you could try BerryReview.com | BlackBerry News & Reviews You Can Use and search the free theme section; Free BoldBerry Theme for 8100 & 8300 Blackberry | BerryReview.com . Search for the newer themes as they have been developed with the new OS in mind)
Hope this helps.

Need help - which software to use - BES or Professional

Hi

I need help deciding if we can get away with just getting BB Professional Software Express or if we have to go all out and get BES.

There are only 3 of us needing it. and the main feature we need is full Outlook and MS support on our BB.

1. Be able to accept/decline appointments and have them appear on both desktop and BB

2. have email show as read on both devices

3.we have home grown systems that send emails with an approval button to just click (we need to be able to do this on our BB)

4. view MS attachments

5. listen to wav attachments (work voicemail gets sent in wav file emails)

Do you think we can just use BB Professional?

Thanks

war

Need help - which software to use - BES or Professional

Hello,

It should be ok if you are only using 3 users. You would have to buy some additional CAL’s.

1. Be able to accept/decline appointments and have them appear on both desktop and BB

>>>>>> ok

2. have email show as read on both devices

>>>>>> ok

3.we have home grown systems that send emails with an approval button to just click (we need to be able to do this on our BB)

>>>>>> I am not sure with "home grown systems". If you have a business application then you need to customise to a mobile application.

4. view MS attachments

>>>>>> ok

5. listen to wav attachments (work voicemail gets sent in wav file emails)

>>>>>> ok

Cheers
